Consultation for the review of the mandatory standard for child car restraints

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is reviewing the mandatory safety standard for child restraints for use in motor vehicles. The attached consultation paper sets out a detailed proposal and a draft regulation.

Stakeholders are invited to make written submissions on the consultation paper by close of business Thursday 16 January 2014.

Mandatory Standards

The mandatory standard for child restraints for motor vehicles came into effect on 7 November 1978 and was last amended 19 September 2014. It covers various requirements for the design, construction, performance, user instructions, marking and packaging of child car restraints.
