ACCC acts on show bag dangers at Darwin show

Published

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has inspected show bags ahead of tomorrow’s opening of  Royal Darwin Show to ensure products meet safety requirements under the Australian Consumer Law.

“Out of 100 show bags inspected, the ACCC found three products that didn’t comply,” NT Regional Director Derek Farrell said.

“There were two bow and arrow toy sets that didn’t have the mandatory safety warning labels and a temporary tattoo product that didn’t have the required ingredient list.”

Projectile toys can pose serious eye injury risks, which is why the safety warnings are so important. Temporary tattoos may pose a risk of adverse reaction if consumers aren’t aware of the ingredients and are allergic to any of them.”

The suppliers of these products are working to fix the required labelling before the show opens tomorrow. The ACCC will also be conducting follow-up surveillance during the show to make sure all show bag items remain safe.

“Show bags must be safe enough for all show goers, especially children, which is why the ACCC conducts safety inspections before the Darwin Show every year,” Mr Farrell said.

The Royal Darwin Show runs from 24-26 July and the ACCC will also be holding a consumer safety information stall at the Yellow Brick Road throughout.
