Discount variety sector: putting industry on notice

Published

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is conducting marketplace surveillance of toys in the lead up to Christmas.

Many toys are subject to mandatory safety standards and bans. Surveillance will be concentrated in the discount variety sector in conjunction with state and territory agencies.

Previous surveillance by the ACCC and state and territory agencies identified non-compliant toys in discount stores.

All suppliers must comply with mandatory safety standards and bans. Suppliers selling unsafe or dangerous toys may face penalties under the Australian Consumer Law.
