Confectionery

Most lollies and sweets we eat are safe if consumed appropriately. But where evidence shows a risk of serious injury or illness related to certain confectionery, these products must meet compulsory safety requirements known as mandatory safety standards. In some cases dangerous confectionery is banned from supply in Australia.

This section contains product safety information on various confectionery and includes information on:

  • products that have a mandatory standard or ban
  • choosing safe products
  • using products safely
  • possible safety issues that we are currently monitoring related to confectionery.

Other authorities

While we cover the general consumer products listed below, you may also obtain safety information from other authorities with a role in monitoring safety, providing advice and handling complaints about specific types of products.
