Home wares

Most of the home ware products we regularly use are safe when used appropriately.  But where evidence shows a risk of serious injury or illness related to certain home wares, these products must meet compulsory safety requirements known as mandatory safety standards. In some cases dangerous home wares are banned from supply in Australia.

This section contains product safety information on various home ware products and includes information on:

  • products that have a mandatory standard or ban
  • choosing safe products
  • using products safely
  • possible safety issues that we are currently monitoring related to home ware products.

Other authorities

While we cover the general consumer products listed below, you may also obtain safety information from other authorities with a role in monitoring safety, providing advice and handling complaints about specific types of products.
