Toys with lead safety

  • Watch children when they put objects in their mouths—most toys are not made to be placed in the mouth. They may seriously harm children if they contain lead, and children may also choke.
  • Get immediate medical attention if children become sick after placing objects in their mouths as they may have ingested lead.
  • If children are using products that are applied to their skin (such as make-up, face and body paints) or toys that are handled a lot and may leave residues (such as play dough and ‘goo'), ensure you wash them thoroughly from your children’s skin immediately after use.
  • There is a mandatory standard for toys containing lead and other elements which suppliers and retailers must always follow. Always check the Product Safety Recalls Australia website along with this website for banned and recalled toys to ensure you are not using or own one.
