Extra blankets, pillows, bumpers and soft toys in cots

Myth: A child in a household cot needs lots of bumpers, blankets, pillows and soft toys to give comfort and protection. 

Fact: Excessive or overly soft bedding can be dangerous to babies. Infants can smother when caught up in excessive bedding, as these items can trap children or fold around their mouths and prevent breathing. These items can also cause overheating.
