Should I get rid of our second-hand cot and replace it one that meets the mandatory standard?
Answer
Household cots may be used for only short periods. As a result, it is possible that a second-hand cot you are buying, borrowing or have been given is still in good condition.
You will be able to tell if a second-hand cot is safe to use if it has:
instructions for assembly
instructions for safe use
all parts in good working order
a correct fitting mattress
the correct (safe) measurements for gaps and protrusions for second-hand cots—see under 'Some key requirements' in the mandatory standard.
Always follow the instructions for assembly and use that should come with your cot. Never try to repair or modify a cot yourself. Always take a damaged cot to a reputable supplier for repairs and, if it can't be fixed, dispose of it.
