Australians celebrating during the festive season are urged to consider the safety of candle holders and candle decorations, as some may be flammable. Combustible candle holders are banned from supply in Australia.
Decorated candles and candle holders are particularly popular for use during the Christmas and New Year period, and new products and designs often appear on the market at this time.
There is a permanent ban on combustible candle holders. Combustible (or flammable) candle holders and decorations can create the risk of burns, serious injury or death if they catch alight and cause a larger fire.
The ACCC regularly monitors the market for potentially dangerous products. Read more about how the ACCC does this.

Safety tips
When putting together Christmas or other festive decorations, make sure that any items that are or could be flammable are kept clear of candles and heat sources.
Candles and other items that have flames or heat should only be used by adults and with caution.
Always supervise children who are near open flames or heat sources. Candles are not toys.
Be particularly careful using novelty candles that have sparkler- or firework-like flames (often used for lighting several candles).
