Voluntary standard for sunglasses and fashion spectacles under review

Published

Standards Australia is reviewing the voluntary standard for sunglasses and fashion spectacles - AS/NZS 1067:2003.

This voluntary standard forms the basis for the mandatory safety standard which sets requirements for all sunglasses sold in Australia.

Public comment is sought on the draft revised version of the voluntary standard released by Standards Australia. The revisions are intended to bring the Australian Standardas close as practicable to the relevant ISO standards (ISO 12311 and 12312-1).

The Standards Committee is particularly seeking comment on their decision to retain the existing 400 nm ultraviolet long wavelength limit rather than adopt the revised ISO limit of 380 nm.

The ACCC encourages all stakeholders to provide comments to Standards Australia.

Information on downloading the draft and submitting comments is available on the Standards Australia website.

Submissions close on Wednesday 23 December 2015.
