Warning notice to public issued in relation to Keratin Complex Intense Rx

Published

Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, David Bradbury has issued a warning notice to the public in relation to ‘Keratin Complex Intense Rx’, a restructuring serum for hair.

The warning notice highlights the health dangers of high levels of "free" formaldehyde in the Keratin Complex Intense Rx hair conditioner product.

Dateline Imports Pty Ltd recently recalled the product because it contained an undeclared chemical, timonacic acid, which is not approved for use in cosmetics in Australia.

ACCC testing also indicated that the product contains excessive levels of "free" formaldehyde. Formaldehyde is known to cause sensory irritation, skin sensitisation, and may also cause cancer in circumstances where there is chronic high exposure.

Consumers who have purchased or used Intense Rx should heed the supplier’s recall notice, stop using the product, and return it to the supplier or place of purchase for a full refund or replacement.  Consumers who have experienced sensitivity or injury are encouraged to seek medical attention and to contact either the supplier or the ACCC on 1300 302 502.

The Warning Notice to the Public is available from this website.

More information about the recall can be found on the Recalls Australia website.
