What are the defects?

A component in the airbag control module may fail, causing the front airbags, side curtain airbags, and/or seatbelt pre-tensioners to deploy inadvertently while the vehicle is being operated.

What are the hazards?

Inadvertent deployment of the airbags may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle accident.

What should consumers do?

Chrysler will send a letter to affected owners. Chrysler dealers will install a supplemental jumper harness to the airbag control module free of charge. Due to limitations on the availability of parts, the recall is expected to begin during March 2013 for the Jeep Cherokee and August 2013 for the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
