Reasons the product is recalled

Driver's airbag Inflator: If an affected vehicle is involved in an accident and the airbag goes off, the airbag inflator may rupture.

The hazards to consumers

In the event of an airbag inflator rupture, metal fragments could possibly shoot out, straight through the airbag cushion material towards the vehicle occupants causing serious injury or fatality.

What consumers should do

Owners of affected vehicles should have received a letter from Honda Australia asking them to contact a Honda dealership or Honda Recall Call Centre to arrange replacement of the airbag inflator free of charge.

Owners of Honda vehicles can check if their vehicle is affected by the Takata airbag recall at https://www.honda.com.au/recall.html, by calling Freecall 1800 789 839 (Mon-Fri 8am-9pm; Sat-Sun 8.30am-5pm EST) or by checking the VIN look-up tool at http://www.honda.com.au/airbag.

Alternatively, consumers can use their registration plate number to check if their vehicle is affected by going to http://www.ismyairbagsafe.com.au

If you are advised that your vehicle is fitted with an ‘alpha airbag’ it is critical owners take immediate steps to have the airbag inflators replaced because of the significant risk of injury or death associated with these inflators.

It is strongly recommended that owners of these vehicles stop driving their vehicles immediately. Under the Recall Notice, on request Honda Australia must offer to arrange for your vehicle to be towed free of charge to the place of replacement or for a qualified technician to travel to you (or some similar arrangement), so that you do not have to drive your vehicle to be fixed if you do not want to do so.

We also recommend you visit https://www.productsafety.gov.au/newsletter/subscribe to subscribe to receive updates about current and future recalls as they are published.
