Identifying features

Elantra (HD): KMHDU41DAAU929998 - KMHDT41B9BU084665
i30 (FD): KMHDC81TMAU064300 - KMHDC51TMAU267226

What are the defects?

Loss of power to the MDPS will increase steering effort. If the defect occurs, the electronic power steering (EPS) lamp will be illuminated on the instrument panel.

What are the hazards?

Without power steering, the steering wheel can become heavy and additional effort is required to control the vehicle. The reduced control over the vehicle may pose a hazard to the driver, or other road users.

What should consumers do?

A letter will be sent to affected owners. Return the vehicle to an authorised Hyundai dealership to have the MDPS inspected for either steering motor replacement or a software upgrade.
