Toyota—Lexus RX400H Intelligent Power Module Replacement
What are the defects?
Due to variations in the circuit characteristics of the Intelligent Power Module, higher operating temperatures may result in internal solder degradation.
Eventually this will cause heat damage to the Intelligent Power Module with illumination of various warning lights on the instrument panel. In most cases, the vehicle will enter a fail-safe mode, resulting in reduced driving power in which the vehicle can still be operated for short distances.
In limited instances, the fuse of the power supply circuit could operate, causing the hybrid system to shut down and resulting in the vehicle stopping whilst being driven.
What are the hazards?
If the vehicle is being driven and stops unexpectedly this may pose a hazard to the driver and other road users.
What should consumers do?
Customers are advised to avoid towing or rapid acceleration until their vehicle is repaired. Affected customers will be sent a letter instructing them to take their vehicle to their preferred Lexus dealer for inspection and rectification.
