The affected Apple MacBook Pros are the Retina 15-inch, mid-2015 model. They have a 15.4-inch (diagonal) display, 2.2-2.5 GHz processors, 256 GB-1 TB solid-state storage, two Thunderbolt 2 ports, two USB 3 ports, and one HDMI port.
The products were primarily sold between September 2015 and February 2017.
This recall does not affect other MacBook Pro models.
Why the product is recalled
Batteries in affected older generation 15-inch MacBook Pros can overheat.
What the hazards are to consumers
If the battery overheats, there is a risk of fire, property damage, or injuries to consumers.
Apple has received reports of battery overheating including reports of minor burns, smoke inhalation and minor damage to the property.
What consumers should do
Consumers can use the serial number lookup tool on Apple’s website, to determine if their 15-inch MacBook Pro is affected by the recall. First check to see which 15-inch MacBook Pro you have. Choose ‘About This Mac’ from the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen. If your model is “MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, mid 2015)”, visit https://support.apple.com/en-au/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall and enter your computer’s serial number to see if it is included in this recall. If your MacBook Pro is included, stop using it and follow the instructions at https://support.apple.com/en-au/15-inch-macbook-pro-battery-recall to have your battery replaced free of charge.
