Reason the product is recalled

The wall thickness of the extension tube varied. One report of a stem breaking in the field, in Germany, resulting in minor injuries. Stem passed US standard in all tests, but failed in recent European stem standardized testing. Issue has been corrected in goods currently manufactured since September 2009.

The hazards to consumers

Stem could break in use, causing loss of bicycle control, resulting in serious injury or death.

What consumers should do

Do not use stem. Return stems to the retailer for a free replacement. Retailer will return stems to distributor for stem destruction.
