Reason the product is recalled
During assembly, a spacer was installed behind the drive side bottom bracket bearing, increasing the bracket width. As a result, the crank arm is not completely attached to the crank spindle, and the crank arm safety tab cannot lock into the spindle. This can cause crank arms and pedals to fall off affected bicycles.
The hazards to consumers
If the pedal and crank arm fall off while the bicycle is being ridden, the rider may lose control of the bicycle, increasing the risk of an accident or injury.
What consumers should do
Consumers with potentially affected bicycles have been contacted directly by Trek and should immediately stop using their bicycle and take it to a Trek retailer to be inspected. Spacers will be removed from affected bicycles. All bicycles already inspected or repaired under this recall do not need to be inspected again.
