Reason the product is recalled
The quantified concentrations of formaldehyde exceed the 2000mg/kg (0.2%w/w) safe limit for 'free formaldehyde' in cosmetics. Additionally, the bottles are not labelled with the mandatory warning for cosmetics that contain in excess of 500mg/kg (0.05%w/w) of free formaldehyde.
The hazards to consumers
Formaldehyde can cause sensory irritation and skin sensitisation. Formaldehyde in high concentrations with prolonged exposure is also known to be carcinogenic.
What consumers should do
Stop using the products immediately. Customers will be contacted by a sales representative, whereupon the faulty goods will be replaced with similar (but compliant) products.
