What are the defects?
Diaphragm inside of exhalation valve may become rigid or brittle beginning after 5 years of storage. Moldex is reducing expiration dates of affected models in the market and those manufactured as of and after April, 8th 2015 to be 4 years maximum shelf life.
What are the hazards?
Masks that contain an exhalation valve with a diaphragm that has become more rigid or brittle may allow contaminant to enter mask during inhalation.
What should consumers do?
Users must discontinue use of affected model numbers that are more than 4 years past the date of manufacture. Products that are less than 4 years from date of manufacture can be used for up to four years from the manufacture date and do not require recall nor removal from service. Users must check existing expiration/use by year, of affected models to determine if it is marked with a four year expiration date from date of manufacture. All Resellers must stop selling any product of affected models that is more than 3 years past date of manufacture.
