Reason the product is recalled

An injury may occur if a user positions their fingers beneath the seat when the seat is tilted backward in the reclined position.

The hazards to consumers

When the seat is tilted forwards again to the upright position the fingers may be crushed if they are trapped between the seat frame and the frame stopper. The stopper is a functional necessity required to stop the tilting action when the seat returns to the horizontal position.

When used correctly by a carer, all users fingers, hands, limbs should be positioned away from all moving parts of the commode including the tilting mechanism.

What consumers should do

Aidacare will contact all affected customers to arrange on site installation of pivot guards. The risk will be mitigated via the addition of a pivot guard to the commode on either side of the frame.
