Why the product is recalled
The pedals may have a manufacturing defect which causes the spindles to be brittle. This may cause one or both of the spindles to break. If the spindle breaks, the pedal body will separate from the spindle.
What the hazards are to consumers
If the pedal body separates from the spindle while the bicycle is being ridden, the rider might lose control of the bicycle and fall, resulting in injury.
What consumers should do
Consumers with affected pedals should stop using them immediately. Consumers can contact an authorised Trek retailer to make arrangements for a repair. Spindles are not immediately available. The retailer will place an order for the customer’s spindles and notify the customer when available for repair. Consumers can then make an appointment with the retailer to bring their recalled pedals in for repair with new spindles.
Trek will give a $35 in-store credit to consumers who bring in their affected pair of pedals for repair.
Consumers can obtain further information by contacting Trek Bicycle Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd by telephoning 02 6173 2400.
