Undeclared knives or cutters in stationery sets

Children's art, craft and stationery sets that include a knife or cutter cannot be sold unless the knife or cutter is declared.

About the ban

The declaration of the presence of a knife or cutter must be easily legible and prominently displayed on the packaging in lettering not less than 3mm high.

Complying with the ban

Consumer Protection Notice No. 19 of 2011 sets out the requirements of this ban.

Enforcement

Failure to supply compliant products can result in the ACCC taking action, culminating in:

  • infringement notices
  • court enforceable undertakings
  • disqualification from being a company director
  • court action with penalties
  • recall of product.
