Consumer Affairs Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) today released an Issues Paper calling for submissions on the Australian Consumer Law Review.
Minister for Small Business and Assistant Treasurer, the Hon Kelly O’Dwyer MP said we all experience being a consumer and it is important we have laws that empower us to confidently participate in the marketplace.
“The Australian Consumer law should provide consumers and businesses with rights, protections and obligations that foster effective competition and minimise the cost of acquiring goods and services,” Minister O’Dwyer said.
“This Issues Paper is seeking views on whether the law is operating as intended, the effectiveness of its enforcement, and whether it can flexibly respond to new and emerging consumer issues.
“From consumer guarantees, to prohibitions against unfair trading and unsafe products – all areas of the law are up for scrutiny. This is a valuable opportunity for consumers, businesses and other interested groups to let us know what they think is working and what could be improved,” Minister O’Dwyer said.

Submissions close on Friday 27 May 2016.
