About us

Product safety regulation in Australia is a shared responsibility between the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the states and territories.

Consumers, businesses, government agencies, safety experts, standards writers and consumer advocates work together to maximise the safety of goods sold and used in Australia.

Different government agencies are responsible for monitoring and regulating the safety of different types of products.

The ACCC and state and territory consumer product safety regulators play an active role in protecting consumers from chemical hazards in the home.

The ACCC consults with the community and our stakeholders. Most of our public consultations and the submissions received are published on our websites and consultation site.
