The ACCC has reviewed the scope of the permanent ban on miniature motorbikes (monkey bikes) with unsafe design features and concluded that the ban unintentionally captures electric powered miniature motorbikes, as well as miniature motorbikes powered by internal combustion engine.
It is proposed that the existing permanent ban be revoked and replaced with an amended permanent ban which applies only to miniature motorbikes with unsafe design features that are powered by an internal combustion engine.
Prior to amending the ban the ACCC must provide an opportunity for any person who supplies or proposes to supply miniature motorbikes to request a conference with the ACCC.
Conferences are formal procedures designed to provide an opportunity for affected suppliers to express views or provide evidence opposing the proposed ban. They are not intended to be a forum for seeking clarification of the ban.
Details of how to formally request a conference and the time limits that apply to such requests are contained in the attached notice. The attached notice was published on 29 June 2011.
