On 27 May 2013, the Commonwealth Assistant Treasurer, the Hon David Bradbury MP, announced that he intended to amend the Competition and Consumer (Tobacco) Information Standard 2011 (Tobacco Standard). The proposed amendment will remove the legal responsibility on retailers to rotate the health warnings on tobacco products, placing this obligation solely on manufacturers/importers at the time they are released into the Australian supply chain. See the media release issued by the Assistant Treasurer on 27 May 2013.

The draft instrument to amend the Tobacco Standard has been prepared and can be viewed below. Should suppliers of tobacco products have any comments on the draft instrument they should contact the ACCC, as soon as possible and before 26 June 2013.
