Risks and injuries from the product

Tongue studs without holes (also known as no hole tongue studs) are small beads worn as jewellery on the tongue.

Tongue studs without holes are dangerous.

If the stud detaches from the tongue, it can be inhaled into a lung or airway. This can cause serious internal injuries. If it lodges, you may need surgery.

Products the ban applies to

There is a permanent ban on tongue studs without holes.

Tongue studs without holes have a small opening on one side only. This creates suction to attach it to the tongue. They remove the need for piercing.

View the full details of this ban at Consumer Protection Notice No. 18 of 2010.
