Products the mandatory standard applies to
Miniature motorbikes are also called monkey bikes, mini bikes or pocket bikes. They are powered by an internal combustion engine or are electrically powered. Miniature motorbikes are capable of speeds of up to 80 km/h.
The mandatory standard defines a miniature motorbike as a vehicle which resembles a motorcycle but scaled down to about half the size, that:
- is designed to be used by one person
- has a seat height no greater than 600 mm
- has major dimensions that are scaled down in proportion to the seat height.
Products the mandatory standard does not apply to
The mandatory standard excludes:
- vehicles that are registerable for road use
- vehicles with a maximum design speed of 30 km/h or less
- power-assisted pedal cycles
- motorised scooters
- motorised recreational devices
- small off-road motorbikes designed and intended for use by children as a learner or introductory motorbike within a product range.

Design and construction
The mandatory standard sets out the requirements for design and construction, including:
- a self-closing, hand-operated throttle
- an effective braking system
- adequate foot pegs
- an effective steering system
- a supplemental engine stop
- a speed-limiting device.
User manual and warning labels
A miniature motorbike must be supplied with a manual containing instructions for use. The manual must be in English.

If a miniature motorbike is supplied in packaging, the packaging must also have a warning. The swing tag and packaging must have the below warning.
