Product Safety Week is on during 7–14 October 2013, with activities happening around Australia and online to raise awareness about making safe, buying safe and using safe products.
There's something for everyone during Product Safety Week – consumers and businesses alike: parents, kids, safety experts, compliance professionals, small, medium and big businesses, and anyone else who makes, buys or uses consumer goods.
Trampoline safety launches into the air
Tuesday 8 October sees the Trampoline safety – It's flippin' important campaign and video launch in Adelaide at the SA Aquatic and Leisure Centre with Olympian trampolinist Blake Gaudry. The campaign is a joint initiative between ACCC, Kidsafe and state consumer protection agencies. ACCC Commissioner Sarah Court will be speaking to parents and families at the launch about trampoline hazards and how to avoid them. See our Trampoline safety site for details.
Australia's first ever international product safety conference
During Wednesday and Thursday 9–10 October, Australia, together with the International Consumer Product Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO), will co-host a major international product safety conference for the first time. The event will be held on the sunny Gold Coast, with ACCC Chair Rod Sims delivering a keynote speech at lunchtime on Wednesday.
The ICPHSO conference will bring together more than 160 product safety experts, businesses and professionals dealing in consumer goods from 21 countries with a focus on improving the safety of consumer goods in Australia and internationally. The conference is in addition to ICPHSO and other international product safety groups, of which the ACCC is a member, meeting throughout the week on the Gold Coast. See our Events section for more details on the conference.
