SAFETY standards for baby bath aids and sunglasses have been strengthened to ensure the safety of consumers in Australia, Minister for Small Business Michael McCormack says.

Thousands of homes across Australia still have faulty Infinity electrical cabling installed, despite recalls of all Infinity cables announced almost two years ago.

Approximately 2,300km of dangerous Infinity electrical cable is still installed in thousands of homes across Australia.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is warning suppliers and installers of degrading Infinity cables, including DIY homeowners, to take action before months of hot weather could cause the cables to become brittle and put lives at risk. Property owners are also being urged to take action to avoid serious risks.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has instituted proceedings in the Federal Court against Ozsale Pty Limited for allegedly selling children’s nightwear between July 2014 and October 2015 which did not comply with the mandatory Australian safety standard.

Standards Australia is reviewing the voluntary standard for sunglasses and fashion spectacles. Submissions are welcome until 23 December 2015.
