Lithium Ion rechargeable battery packs used with HP and Compaq computers. The affected battery packs will have a bar-code label starting with GC, IA, L0 or L1. The affected HP notebooks are: HP Pavilion/Compaq Presario models: Pavilion zv5000, Pavilion ze5000, Pavilion ze4000, Presario R3000, Presario 2100, Presario 2500. HP Compaq: nc6000, nc/nw8000, nx5000, nx9000, nx9005, nx9100 and nx 9010.

Reasons the product is recalled

There is a risk that an internal short may develop and cause the battery cells comprised in the battery packs to overheat and, depending on state of charge, rupture the individual cell, emit smoke and melt or char the plastic case of the battery pack and/or notebook.

The hazards to consumers

Fire or burn hazard.

What consumers should do
