Santa Cruz Heckler 9 e-bikes with interchangeable 720W lithium-ion batteries.
“SANTA CRUZ” is printed on the sides of the downtube of the bicycle frame, “Heckler” is printed on the top tube of the frame and on the inside of the left chainstay.

Reason the product is recalled
Santa Cruz Heckler 9 e-bikes with interchangeable 720W lithium-ion batteries may short-circuit and cause a fire.
The hazards to consumers
Risk of burn injuries and damage to property if the battery catches fire.
Santa Cruz Bicycles has received four reports of fires, including some property damage. No injuries have been reported.
What consumers should do
- Stop using the Heckler 9 e-bike immediately and disconnect the battery from the e-bike and charger.
- Check if the battery is affected by following the instructions in the consumer communication or on the Santa Cruz Bicycles' recall page: https://santacruzbicycles.com/pages/recall-heckler-9-lithium-ion-battery.
- If affected, register your details to receive a replacement battery when one becomes available in mid-July 2025. If the battery is not affected consumers may continue to use their e-bike.
- Remove the downtube cover before disposing of the battery, as you will need the cover to use with the replacement battery. Dispose of the affected battery in accordance with local requirements. Do not put the battery in household waste.
- If you have difficulty removing your battery, take the e-bike to a local Santa Cruz dealer and have a professional mechanic remove the battery.
- Contact Santa Cruz Bicycle if you require further assistance with this recall or have sold or gifted the e-bike to another person and forward this information.
