Tinted headlight covers

Tinted headlight covers that restrict more than fifteen percent of a headlight's beams are permanently banned.

About the ban

Headlight covers for motor vehicles which allow less than 85 per cent luminous transmittance are banned from supply in Australia.

A tinted headlight cover is a coloured panel placed in front of a motor vehicle headlight.

Complying with the ban

Consumer Protection Notice No. 7 of 2003 sets out the requirements of this ban.

Enforcement

Failure to supply compliant products can result in the ACCC taking action, culminating in:

  • infringement notices
  • court enforceable undertakings
  • disqualification from being a company director
  • court action with penalties
  • recall of product.
