What are the defects?
Certain gaskets in the model aircraft engine contain chrysotile asbestos. If the engine is disassembled for repair or maintenance, asbestos fibres may be released from the gaskets and users may be exposed to asbestos fibres when handling the gaskets.
What are the hazards?
If asbestos fibres are released into the air and breathed in, they can cause serious medical conditions, including asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma.
What should consumers do?
Owners of affected engines should email their details to recall@dlenginesaustralia.com or call 0466 614 538 and leave a message and you will be contacted to make suitable arrangements.
Owners of affected engines must not disassemble the engine and should not perform any maintenance, repairs or modifications on these engines that may damage the gaskets.
DL Engines and Hobby Australia will contact affected owners to make an appointment for the affected engines to be returned for the gaskets to be removed and replaced by a technician who is qualified to safely work with asbestos-containing materials, free of charge. Customers that have purchased gaskets as spares will have new gaskets supplied at no charge.
