Why the product is recalled
It is possible for water to leak into the shift actuator. Such water leakage could cause internal corrosion and wire damage, eventually causing the engine to go into Guardian-forced idle, losing shift control (engine remains in its last gear position), or the engine may not restart.
What the hazards are to consumers
If engine power or control is lost, it is possible that the boat could become stranded.
What consumers should do
Consumers should contact their nearest Mercury dealer who will arrange for the engine to be inspected and, if affected by the recall, for the shift actuator to be replaced.
