Reason the product is recalled
In engines which have an octagonal cooler, it is possible for components of the steering system of the engine to make contact with the oil cooler.
The hazards to consumers
If the defect occurs, additional steering effort may be required, and if the engine is operating at full throttle, the vessel may become flooded with water.
What consumers should do
Cease using their boat and take it to a Mercury dealer who will inspect the engine's oil cooler and, if found to be an octagonal oil cooler, will replace it with a round oil cooler.
