Reason the product is recalled
The steering actuator may be missing the two screws that are intended to retain the internal sensor magnet. The absence of those screws permits the magnet to move and this can result in a false position value being recorded.
The hazards to consumers
Potential loss of steering control, which may pose a hazard to the driver or other vessels.
What consumers should do
Stop using the boat and have it inspected by a Mercury dealer who will check whether the engine steering actuator is defective and, if so, replace it.
