Wilhelm Maass GmbH - Essen plant manufactured ASTM A350 LF2 Class 1 low temperature carbon steel flanges within Heats 317, 966 and 923.

The flanges are used to connect tubular piping.

Reason the product is recalled

In five (5) instances of product testing, the Flange failed a low temperature fracture toughness test against the requirements of the ASTM A350 standard.

The hazards to consumers

If a brittle fracture occurs due to an external stress whilst in use, fluid leakage may occur.

It is noted, however, that any specific hazard is application dependent.

What consumers should do

Consumers are urged to:

1. quarantine any stocked inventory; and

2. undertake a review of the products as used in current operations and perform a risk assessment as to whether any controls are required to ensure the safety of personnel and plant

MRC will accept return of unused items on behalf of Wilhelm Maass. These items should be returned to the nearest MRC warehouse location in return for a full refund of replacement item
