Consumer Protection Notice No. 3 of 2015

Safety warning notice to public

Pursuant to paragraph 129(1)(b) of Schedule 2 of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, I, BRUCE BILLSON, Minister for Small Business warn of the possible risks involved in the use of the consumer goods specified below.

Particulars of goods

Wooden Baby Sleigh Cot Bed in white or dark wood colour. Sold with drawer, and teething rail supplied by Frank Masons Pty Ltd as pictured below. The goods were supplied between 1 January 2014 and 25 July 2014 and are marked with the following identifying features:

  • BC – 026
  • Batch Number SDK130064
  • Affected cots have the marking on the base: December 2013.

Possible risks

The Wooden Baby Sleigh Cot Bed does not comply with the Consumer Protection Notice No. 6 of 2005: Consumer Product Safety Standard – Children’s Household Cots (the mandatory standard).  Testing of the Wooden Baby Sleigh Cot Bed identified that the cots failed to comply with construction, performance and labelling requirements of the mandatory standard.

Compliance concernPossible risk
Inappropriate movement of the drop side mechanism.A dangerous characteristic of the goods as it creates a risk of infants falling out of the cot.
Inappropriate sharp edges.A dangerous characteristic of the goods because it creates a risk of bruising and laceration to infants.

What should consumers do?

  • stop using the cot immediately
  • dismantle and dispose of the cot
  • do not sell or gift the cot.
