Fair Trading Minister Virginia Judge today announced the voluntary recall of two models of Eurolux wall heaters that pose a potential fire or electrical hazard.
Ms Judge said manufacturer, Hagemeyer Brands, is recalling some models of the Eurolux wall-mounted heaters after receiving reports that the rear plastic mounting brackets on the heaters had failed through overheating.
“The fault could lead to the heaters falling off the wall which could start a fire or cause an electric shock,” she said.
“Hagemeyer Brands has advised Fair Trading there have been eight reports of heaters falling off walls, but no reports of fire or injury.
“However, it’s important that consumers stop using the heater immediately and unplug the unit from the power point where possible.
“Owners should not attempt to remove or dismantle the heaters.”
Ms Judge said nearly 2750 heaters are being recalled nationally including 1300 in New South Wales.
“The heaters have been in stores since April 2008 and the affected model numbers are SH1200A (1200watts) 2-bar and the SH1500 (1500watts) 3-bar,” she said.
“To arrange a replacement or refund owners should register their details by contacting the manufacturer on 1800 224 026 (Monday to Friday 8am-8pm) or by visiting www.euroluxheating.com.au/recall.
“After you register your details, a service technician will visit and remove the heater free of charge.”
Ms Judge said the manufacturer has also contacted retailers to withdraw the affected models from sale and return any stock.
“Fortunately, now that we are in the summer months, not many people are using their heaters but owners should act now to have them removed,” she said.
