Compulsory Takata airbag recall

  • A compulsory recall for all vehicles with defective Takata airbags was issued on 27 February 2018.
  • This followed an ACCC safety investigation.
  • The Takata airbag recall is the most significant compulsory recall in Australia’s history, involving more than 3 million vehicles.

About the compulsory Takata airbag recall

In 2018 the Government announced the compulsory recall of vehicles fitted with defective Takata airbags. This followed an ACCC safety investigation.

Vehicle owners should check to see if their vehicle is affected by the compulsory recall to ensure the safety of their vehicle.

Suppliers of vehicles or parts have ongoing obligations with the compulsory recall.

Takata airbag recalls list

Check if your motor vehicle is recalled to replace defective Takata airbags. Most of them have been accounted for.

Grey imported orphan vehicles

Some grey imported vehicles with defective Takata airbags are categorised as ‘orphan’ vehicles. This means the vehicle is not associated with a particular supplier.
